Design Director -- UI/UX, Caeden
The Caeden app syncs to the Sona Connected Bracelet to track your daily activity, help you de-stress and keep your wellness in balance. More than just your average fitness tracker, the Caeden app tracks Active Time and features Resonance, a science-based breathing meditation originally developed for astronauts to improve their resilience to stress.
I led the design of the Caeden app, which entailed development of the product concept and interactive brand identity as well as the UI/UX design, prototyping, user testing and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. We aimed to create an elegant, minimal interface which complemented the existing photo-based brand identity and evoked a sense of calm while processing and presenting a variety data analyses. The UI design was supported by Jessie Zo and MacGregor Harp. The Resonance pacer animations were implemented by Young Sang Cho. The final app was implemented by Intrepid.
“It’s clear Caeden’s team had the right ideas about building an interface…the app itself is well designed and very intuitive overall.” - Ruth Reader, Fast Company

TKOH created Totem in response to a pressing need to preserve the stories of our families and loved ones. Totem began as a simple idea for a visual way to record oral histories — with a soft presence and an intuitive interface usable by young and old alike. Through research, prototyping and the generous support of the Knight Foundation, Totem evolved into a complex, multimedia tool that not only records audio, but also serves as an aid for nurturing conversation and storytelling. The end result is a collection of beautifully crafted videos that capture your loved ones’ experiences and personalities in a way that can be archived and shared with friends, family, and generations to come.
With the name Totem, we envisioned a user experience and design that would evoke the feeling that a story was being virtually preserved and encapsulated as a cherished object (rather than a stack of digital files, so easily misplaced and forgotten).

The ShapeKit app is a space for learning and play like a room full of building blocks. Through hands-on exploration, spatial problem-solving, concentration and experimentation, ShapeKit’s open set of tools allow children to visualize their growing understanding of the world and learn about the logic behind mechanical features, such as how joints move and how shapes relate to one another. Early and experienced learners alike can explore with color and shapes, build characters and bring their creations to life with special effects and simple animations.
ShapeKit's visual stye was inspired by early 20th century artists and designers who created objects for children following modernist ideals for shaping a better future through rational, universal forms -- such as the geometric shapes and bright colors found in the work of Bauhaus artists like Paul Klee and Ladislav Sutnar.

mem:o is a data visualization tool that enables users to track data, add notes and tags, and view data collectively on a list or calendar. The app was intended for casual documentation of personal data -- for picking up on one's own habits and trends, rather than executing complex calculations. For my partner Young Sang Cho and I, mem:o was an early exploration of how an interface can work and how data can feel, beyond the skeuomorphic, button-based conventions of the time. Its visual style was inspired by the kind of bold minimal graphics and typography often found in print design, particularly screenprinting.
In our design process we embraced somewhat chaotic moments, such as when unrelated data circles sit together on the Home screen. As this was how we often encountered our own notes and numbers jotted in notebooks, we believed that these kinds of ‘accidents’ could have a welcome presence in the digital world as well.
